Peer-Review Process

At Lingkar: Journal of Environmental Engineering, every manuscript goes through a double-blind peer review by two reviewers before an editor decides. The steps below show what happens to a submission and who is responsible at each stage.

Stages

# Stage Responsible What happens
1 Submission Author The corresponding author uploads, through the OJS portal, the manuscript in the Lingkar Article Template with the authors' names, and the signed Author Statement Form. Supplementary files are added if applicable.
2 Desk review Initial editor The initial editor checks the fit with the journal's scope, compliance with the Article Template and Author Guidelines (including the reference requirements and the AI Writing Statement), the signed Author Statement Form, and the similarity report. The manuscript is then sent to review, returned to the authors for technical revision, or rejected at this stage (desk reject).
3 Peer review Two reviewers The editorial office prepares an anonymised version, so that reviewers and authors do not learn each other's identity. Every reviewer assesses the whole manuscript independently, including methods, analysis, validity, and reproducibility, as well as contribution, literature, interpretation, and clarity. Reviewers are asked to return their report within one month of accepting the invitation.
4 Editorial decision Editor The editor decides on the basis of the two reports: Accept Submission, Revisions Required, Resubmit for Review, Resubmit Elsewhere, or Decline Submission. Authors who receive a revision request submit a revised manuscript with a response to the reviewers; minor revisions are checked by the editor, and substantial revisions go to a new round of review.
5 Acceptance Editor-in-Chief An accepted manuscript receives a Letter of Acceptance. The publication fee (IDR 500,000) is invoiced only after acceptance; see Publication Fees.
6 Copyediting Copyeditor Language, consistency, and Chicago author-date references are checked, and the author approves the edits.
7 Production Layout editor The article is typeset as a galley PDF, proofread by the author, and corrected.
8 Publication Journal The article is published in open access under CC BY-SA 4.0 with a DOI, in the June or December issue.

Principles

  • Double-blind: authors do not know their reviewers, and reviewers do not know the authors. Reviewer identities are never disclosed to authors.
  • Constructive reports: reviewers complete the OJS review form and give comments the authors can act on, following the Reviewer Guidelines.
  • Human judgement: reviewers do not use generative AI tools (see the Generative AI Policy).
  • Independent decisions: the editor decides on scientific merit, and payment plays no part. The decision belongs to the journal.
  • Language of submission: manuscripts are submitted in English; translations are not accepted.
