Generative AI Policy

Lingkar: Journal of Environmental Engineering allows authors to use generative AI tools as writing aids, provided that the use is declared openly and that the authors remain fully responsible for every part of the manuscript. AI tools cannot be authors, and they have no place in the evaluation of manuscripts.

For Authors

Permitted (with declaration) Not permitted
  • Language editing, grammar, and style improvement
  • Translation assistance, followed by author review
  • Formatting and layout assistance
  • Code or script generation, verified by the authors
  • Initial literature search; every source must be verified
  • Formulating or writing scientific conclusions
  • Interpreting results in place of the authors' own reasoning
  • Fabricating data, references, citations, or images
  • Conducting peer review on another person's behalf
  • Presenting synthetic data as empirical data

AI Writing Statement. Every manuscript must contain an AI Writing Statement in its own section after the Acknowledgements, whether or not AI tools were used. The statement names the tool and version, states the purpose, and confirms that the authors reviewed all AI-assisted content. Ready-to-use statement templates for each type of use, including “no AI used”, are given in Section 6.1 of the Author Guidelines.

Figures and references. A figure, map, or diagram produced with AI must also be declared in its caption. AI-generated text may not be cited as a reference, and no factual claim may be attributed to an AI tool.

For Reviewers

Peer review at Lingkar is a human judgement made in confidence. Reviewers must not use generative AI tools to assess a manuscript or to write, summarise, or translate their review report, and must not upload any part of a manuscript, its supplementary files, or their own report to an AI tool or any external service. A reviewer who needs a language check of the report should ask the editorial office instead.

For Editors

Editors may use AI privately for their own language support only. They remain fully responsible for the confidentiality of manuscripts and reviewer reports and for the quality of their decisions, and they do not upload manuscripts or reports to external AI services without authorisation.

If the Policy Is Not Followed

Undisclosed use of AI, and any use of AI to fabricate data, references, or images, is scientific misconduct. It is handled under the Publication Ethics policy and, for published articles, the Correction and Retraction policy.

Applies to all manuscripts submitted from 2026. Related documents: Author Guidelines (Section 6), Reviewer Guidelines, and the Author Statement Form.
