Objectives and Scope

Lingkar: Journal of Environmental Engineering publishes original research and review articles that apply engineering and scientific methods to protect, restore, and sustainably manage the environment and water resources. We welcome work from every region, and we particularly value studies from tropical, coastal, and disaster-prone settings, where many practical environmental problems are found.

Objectives

Lingkar is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal of Universitas Islam Negeri Ar-Raniry, Banda Aceh, published twice a year. It serves researchers, engineers, practitioners, and policymakers who need evidence that can be tested, reproduced, and applied. A manuscript fits the journal when it states a clear engineering or scientific problem, uses a method that others can evaluate, and shows what the results mean for design, practice, or policy.

Scope

Topics include, but are not limited to, the following areas.

Water and wastewater engineering

Drinking-water treatment and supply, domestic and industrial wastewater treatment, decentralised sanitation, membrane, adsorption, and biological processes, and resource recovery from wastewater.

Water resources and hydrology

Hydrology and hydraulics, flood and drought analysis, watershed and coastal management, groundwater, integrated water resources management, and climate-resilient water infrastructure.

Solid and hazardous waste

Waste reduction, recycling, composting, and waste-to-energy, landfill management, hazardous and medical waste, circular economy, and life cycle assessment.

Air quality and climate

Air pollution monitoring and control, indoor air quality, greenhouse gas inventories, carbon management, and climate change mitigation and adaptation measures.

Soil, groundwater, and remediation

Remediation of contaminated soil, sediment, and groundwater, bioremediation and phytoremediation, and the fate and treatment of emerging contaminants such as microplastics and pharmaceutical residues.

Monitoring, modelling, and digital tools

Environmental monitoring and assessment, sensors and remote sensing, GIS, process and hydrological modelling, and data-driven or machine-learning methods applied to environmental problems.

Sustainable materials and energy

Green and nature-based technologies, biochar and other low-cost sorbents, bio-based and recycled materials, and renewable energy systems with an environmental assessment.

Risk, health, and resilience

Health, safety, and environment (HSE), environmental impact and risk assessment, disaster risk reduction, and community-based environmental management.

Lingkar encourages an interdisciplinary view. The scope follows the problems named in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities), SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), and SDG 13 (climate action).

Article Types

The journal accepts original research articles and review articles. Manuscripts are submitted in English and follow the Article Template and the Author Guidelines.

Outside the Scope

Manuscripts without an engineering or scientific method, such as opinion pieces or purely descriptive reports, and studies in which an environmental topic serves only as background, are returned at desk review. Authors may then choose a journal that fits their topic better. The initial screening is described on the Peer-Review Process page.
