Data Availability and Research Ethics Policy

1. General Principles

An-Nahdah Al-'Arabiyah: Jurnal Bahasa dan Sastra Arab is committed to promoting transparency, reproducibility, ethical responsibility, and scholarly integrity in research on Arabic language, linguistics, literature, philology, translation, and related disciplines.

The journal requires authors to provide accurate information about their research materials, data sources, ethical procedures, and relevant restrictions on data access.

Research transparency does not require unrestricted public disclosure of confidential, sensitive, copyrighted, or culturally protected materials.

2. Data Availability Requirements

Authors must provide an appropriate Data Availability Statement describing whether and under what conditions the data or research materials supporting their findings may be accessed.

Depending on the nature of the research, relevant materials may include:

  • Linguistic corpora and textual datasets.

  • Interview transcripts and survey responses.

  • Audio and video recordings.

  • Manuscript transcriptions and textual variants.

  • Archival documents and bibliographic datasets.

  • Coding schemes, annotations, and analytical materials.

Authors are encouraged to deposit shareable research data in appropriate institutional or subject-specific repositories where this is legally and ethically permissible.

When data cannot be publicly disclosed, authors must explain the relevant restrictions.

3. Data Availability Statements

Every research article must include a statement appropriate to its research design.

Examples include:

Publicly Available Data

"The data supporting the findings of this study are publicly available in the repository identified in the article."

Data Available upon Reasonable Request

"The data supporting the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request, subject to applicable ethical and legal restrictions."

Restricted Data

"The research data are not publicly available because they contain confidential information or materials subject to ethical, legal, or institutional access restrictions."

Not Applicable

"Data availability is not applicable to this article because no new datasets were generated or analysed."

Authors must not select a statement that inaccurately describes their research.

4. Research Involving Human Participants

Research involving interviews, questionnaires, observation, recordings, or identifiable individuals must comply with applicable ethical requirements.

Where institutional ethical approval is required, authors must identify the approving institution or committee and provide relevant approval information.

Where formal approval is not required, authors should explain the ethical safeguards used in the study.

Informed consent must be obtained where appropriate. Authors must pay particular attention to research involving minors, vulnerable participants, and individuals whose identity could be revealed through quotations or contextual information.

5. Confidentiality and Personal Data

Authors are responsible for protecting confidential information and personal data obtained during research.

Identifiable information must not be disclosed without appropriate permission or another lawful and ethical basis.

Research data involving identifiable participants should be anonymized or pseudonymized where appropriate.

Requests for access to restricted data must respect the conditions established through consent, institutional requirements, and applicable law.

6. Manuscripts, Archives, and Cultural Heritage

Research involving Arabic manuscripts, unpublished literary texts, archival collections, and culturally sensitive materials must comply with applicable access conditions, reproduction permissions, and intellectual property requirements.

Authors must acknowledge the relevant libraries, archives, collections, manuscript owners, or cultural institutions.

Access to research materials does not automatically grant permission to reproduce, distribute, or publish them.

7. Research Integrity and Data Accuracy

Fabrication, falsification, selective manipulation of evidence, and misrepresentation of research materials are prohibited.

Authors must accurately explain their methods of data collection, transcription, translation, annotation, analysis, and interpretation.

For philological and textual studies, authors should identify the sources or witnesses used and explain relevant editorial decisions.

For corpus-based research, authors should describe corpus selection, limitations, and analytical procedures with sufficient clarity to support scholarly assessment.

8. Editorial Verification

The editorial team may request additional information about data sources, ethical approval, consent procedures, or research materials when necessary to assess the integrity of a submission.

Confidential documentation will be handled with appropriate safeguards.

A refusal to make sensitive data publicly available does not automatically constitute misconduct when legitimate restrictions are properly explained.

Where serious concerns arise, the journal may investigate them under its research misconduct procedures.

9. Post-Publication Responsibilities

Authors remain responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their published research.

Credible concerns involving data integrity, ethical approval, confidentiality, or research materials may be investigated after publication.

Where necessary, the journal may issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction in accordance with its established policies.

10. Related Policies

The Editor-in-Chief oversees implementation of this policy, with independent editorial handling where a conflict of interest arises.
