General Principles

Jurnal Sosiologi Agama Indonesia (JSAI) respects the privacy of authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and other users of its website and editorial system.

Personal information collected through the journal’s Open Journal Systems platform is used only for legitimate editorial, publication, communication, indexing, preservation, security, and journal-administration purposes.

Information Collected

The journal may collect information provided directly by users, including:

• names and usernames;
• email addresses and contact details;
• institutional affiliations, departments, cities, and countries;
• ORCID identifiers and academic profile information;
• author biographies and areas of expertise;
• manuscripts, supplementary files, reviewer reports, editorial correspondence, and revision records;

• other information voluntarily submitted through the journal platform or official correspondence.

Purpose of Data Use

Personal information may be used to:

• administer manuscript submission, editorial screening, peer review, revision, and publication;
• communicate with authors, reviewers, editors, and readers;
• identify suitable reviewers and editorial experts;
• maintain accurate authorship, affiliation, and publication metadata;
• register and update DOI and bibliographic metadata;
• support indexing, discovery, archiving, and digital preservation;
• investigate complaints, appeals, ethical concerns, or publication-integrity issues;
• protect the security and proper functioning of the journal platform; and
• meet applicable institutional, legal, and scholarly-record obligations.

Published Information

Information necessary for scholarly attribution and discovery may be published as part of the permanent article record. This may include author names, affiliations, countries, ORCID identifiers, corresponding-author email addresses, funding information, author contributions, and other publication metadata.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that information intended for publication is accurate and that disclosure of personal or institutional information does not violate confidentiality, consent, or applicable legal requirements.

Confidential Editorial Information

Data Sharing

JSAI does not sell personal information to advertisers, commercial data brokers, or other third parties.

Relevant information may be shared with service providers or scholarly infrastructure required for journal operation, including DOI registration, metadata distribution, indexing, archiving, preservation, plagiarism screening, email delivery, and technical hosting.

Information may also be disclosed where necessary to investigate misconduct, protect the integrity of the scholarly record, comply with applicable law, respond to a lawful request, or prevent a substantial security or safety risk.

Website Data, Cookies, and Logs

The journal platform may use cookies or similar technical mechanisms necessary for account authentication, session management, language preferences, security, and website functionality.

Server and application logs may record technical information such as access time, browser type, device information, requested pages, and Internet Protocol address. Such information may be used for system administration, security monitoring, troubleshooting, and aggregate usage analysis.

Data Security

The journal and publisher apply reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, misuse, or loss. However, no online platform or electronic communication system can guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

Personal information is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to manage editorial processes, maintain publication records, preserve peer-review and decision histories, investigate ethical concerns, protect system security, and meet institutional or legal obligations.

Information forming part of the permanent scholarly record, including authorship, bibliographic metadata, editorial decisions, corrections, and retractions, may be retained indefinitely to preserve the integrity and traceability of published research.

User Requests

Users may request access to or correction of personal information held by the journal. Requests to restrict or delete information will be assessed in accordance with applicable requirements and the journal’s obligation to preserve legitimate editorial, legal, security, and scholarly records.

Published authorship and bibliographic information will not normally be deleted merely upon request because it forms part of the permanent scholarly record. Material inaccuracies may be corrected through the journal’s applicable post-publication procedure.

Policy Updates

This Privacy Statement may be updated when the journal’s platform, services, institutional requirements, or applicable data-protection obligations change. Material revisions will be published on the journal website.
