Authorship and Contributorship Policy

An-Nahdah Al-‘Arabiyah: Jurnal Bahasa dan Sastra Arab

1. General Principles

An-Nahdah Al-‘Arabiyah is committed to ensuring that authorship accurately reflects the intellectual contributions of individuals involved in scholarly research.

All listed authors must have made genuine academic contributions and must accept responsibility for their work.

The journal prohibits honorary authorship, gift authorship, guest authorship, and ghost authorship.

This policy is developed with reference to the COPE Authorship Discussion Document.

2. Authorship Criteria

An individual qualifies for authorship when all four of the following criteria are fulfilled:

Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
Drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing its important intellectual content.
Final approval of the version to be published.
Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work and to cooperate in resolving questions concerning its accuracy or integrity.

These criteria are adapted from the ICMJE Recommendations: Defining the Role of Authors and Contributors.

Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged appropriately, with their permission.

3. Author Contributions

All authors must disclose their respective contributions to the manuscript.

The journal uses the CRediT – Contributor Role Taxonomy as a framework for describing individual contributions.

Relevant roles may include:

Conceptualization
Methodology
Investigation
Formal analysis
Data curation
Resources
Supervision
Writing – original draft
Writing – review and editing

Authors may identify more than one role for each contributor.

The corresponding author must ensure that all contribution statements are accurate and have been approved by the authors concerned.

4. Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the editorial office throughout submission, peer review, publication, and post-publication processes.

The corresponding author must ensure that all listed authors have approved the submitted manuscript, agreed to its submission, and approved the order of authorship.

The corresponding author must also coordinate declarations concerning funding, competing interests, research ethics, and author contributions.

5. Changes in Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission must be submitted to the editorial office with:

A written explanation of the proposed change.
Written agreement from all affected authors.
An updated statement of author contributions.

The editorial office will evaluate the request and may require additional documentation.

Changes after publication will normally require a formal correction notice.

When an authorship dispute cannot be resolved by the authors, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant institutions.

Editors will not independently determine the academic entitlement of competing authors without appropriate evidence.

The journal refers to the COPE Authorship Discussion Document when handling authorship disputes.

6. Authorship Misconduct

The journal does not tolerate:

Inclusion of individuals who did not contribute to the research.
Deliberate exclusion of individuals who qualify for authorship.
Unauthorized use of another person's name.
Fabricated author identities.
Misrepresentation of individual contributions.

Suspected authorship misconduct will be investigated fairly, with relevant parties given an opportunity to respond.

Editorial action will depend on the evidence and may include a request for clarification, manuscript rejection, authorship correction, or another appropriate measure.

An authorship dispute alone does not automatically justify retraction when the reliability of the published work is not in question.

7. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors.

Authors who use AI-assisted technologies must disclose their use when relevant and remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of the submitted manuscript.

8. Author Identification

All authors must provide accurate names, institutional affiliations, and countries in Roman script.

Authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID identifiers to support accurate identification and scholarly attribution.

9. Implementation and Accountability

The editorial team is responsible for implementing this policy and evaluating authorship-related concerns.

The Editor-in-Chief oversees editorial decisions, while the publisher provides administrative and technical support.

The journal remains responsible for its own authorship policies and procedures.

This policy may be reviewed periodically in light of developments in scholarly publishing and relevant guidance from COPE and other recognized organizations.
