Abstract

This study examines the role of social capital in the Sarayo traditional practice in Gampong Ujung Padang, Simeulue Cut District, Simeulue Regency. Sarayo is a local tradition that reflects mutual cooperation and collective work without financial compensation, functioning as a mechanism to strengthen social relationships within the community. This research aims to identify the forms of social capital and analyze its elements embedded in the Sarayo tradition. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving community members and local leaders. The findings reveal that social capital in Sarayo is manifested through trust, social norms, social values, solidarity, and social networks. These elements contribute significantly to strengthening community cohesion, maintaining social harmony, and supporting sustainable development at the village level. Furthermore, Sarayo serves as a medium for preserving cultural identity and transmitting social values to younger generations. The study concludes that maintaining and strengthening the Sarayo tradition is essential for enhancing community welfare and sustaining local cultural practices.
