Publishing Ethics

1. General Principles

The Indonesian Journal of Halal Management and Technology (IJHMT) adheres to the highest standards of publication ethics for editors, reviewers, authors, and publishers to ensure the integrity, quality, and credibility of the scientific record. All editorial decisions are based solely on academic merit, originality, scientific significance, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal's scope, including halal sustainability, halal information systems and digitalization, halal industry development, halal management, halal fiqh and sharia compliance, Islamic finance, Islamic economics, halal science and technology, halal product innovation, halal slaughtering, halal products, and halal supply chain and logistics.

2. Editorial Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for ensuring a fair, objective, transparent, and timely peer-review and publication process. Editors shall:

  • Evaluate manuscripts solely on their scholarly merit, originality, and relevance.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and related communications.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any potential competing interests.
  • Ensure that ethical concerns, allegations of misconduct, plagiarism, data fabrication, or other irregularities are investigated appropriately.
  • Cooperate with authors, reviewers, and publishers in resolving ethical issues in accordance with internationally recognized standards, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

3. Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to IJHMT undergo a double-blind peer-review process, whereby the identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based evaluations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all manuscript contents.
  • Refrain from using unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.
  • Declare any conflict of interest that could influence their judgment.
  • Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe and notify editors if unable to perform the review.

Editorial decisions are based on reviewers’ recommendations, scientific quality, originality, methodological soundness, and relevance to the fields covered by IJHMT, including: Halal Sustainability and Sustainable Development, Halal Information Systems and Digitalization, Halal Industry and Industrial Development, Halal Management, Halal Fiqh and Sharia Compliance, Islamic Finance, Islamic Economics, Halal Science and Technology, Halal Product Innovation, Halal Slaughtering and Halal Products, Halal Supply Chain and Logistics

4. Authors’ Responsibilities

Authors submitting manuscripts to IJHMT must:

  • Present accurate, original, and ethical research.
  • Properly acknowledge and cite all relevant sources.
  • Avoid plagiarism, self-plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and data manipulation.
  • Ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal.
  • Ensure that all listed authors have made significant intellectual contributions to the work.
  • Obtain approval from all co-authors before submission.
  • Disclose all funding sources and potential conflicts of interest.
  • Promptly inform the editor if a significant error or inaccuracy is discovered after publication.

Changes in authorship, including the addition, removal, or rearrangement of authors, are not permitted after acceptance except under exceptional circumstances approved by the Editor-in-Chief.

5. Plagiarism Policy

IJHMT maintains a strict policy against plagiarism and academic misconduct. All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism-detection software such as Turnitin.

Plagiarism includes:

  • Copying text, ideas, data, figures, tables, or results from other sources without proper citation.
  • Presenting another person’s work as one's own.
  • Self-plagiarism or redundant publication.
  • Reusing substantial portions of previously published work without appropriate acknowledgment.

Classification and Actions

Minor Plagiarism

A small section of text overlap that does not involve significant ideas, data, or scientific content.

Action: Authors will be asked to revise the manuscript and provide appropriate citations.

Intermediate Plagiarism

Significant copying of text, data, figures, or ideas without proper attribution.

Action: Immediate rejection of the manuscript.

Severe Plagiarism

Extensive duplication involving substantial portions of content, data, methods, results, or intellectual contributions from previously published works.

Action: Immediate rejection and prohibition from future submissions to IJHMT for a period determined by the Editorial Board.

6. Retraction and Correction Policy

Published articles may be corrected, withdrawn, or retracted when:

  • Research findings are unreliable due to misconduct or honest error.
  • Data fabrication, falsification, or manipulation is identified.
  • Plagiarism or duplicate publication is discovered.
  • Ethical standards in research or publication have been violated.
  • Significant errors materially affect the conclusions of the article.

Retractions and corrections are conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

7. Open Access and Digital Archiving

IJHMT provides immediate open access to all published articles to support the global exchange of knowledge.

To ensure long-term preservation and accessibility, published content is archived through recognized digital archiving systems, including:

  • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
  • Indonesia One Search (IOS)
  • Garuda (Garba Rujukan Digital)
  • Other national and institutional repository services

8. Integrity and Complaint Handling

The Editorial Board and Publisher are committed to maintaining editorial independence and preventing commercial interests from influencing editorial decisions.

All ethical complaints, allegations of misconduct, conflicts of interest, plagiarism claims, or publication disputes will be investigated thoroughly and fairly, regardless of when they are reported. Investigations will follow COPE best-practice guidelines.
