AUTHOR GUIDELINES

FOCUS AND SCOPE

This journal covers all fields of biological science and applied biology research, such as: Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Genetics, Ecology, Physiology, Biochemistry, and the Integration of Islam and Biological Science.

TYPES OF MANUSCRIPTS

This journal is published twice a year, in April and October, with each issue containing up to seven selected articles. The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  • Original Research Article
  • Review Article

FORMATTING GUIDELINES

  • Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx).
  • The manuscript must be formatted on A4 paper (21 × 29.7 cm).
  • Margins: 3 cm on the left, top, and bottom, and 2.5 cm on the right.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt for the main text; 11 pt for table titles; and 10–11 pt for table contents.
  • The article title must be written in bold, 14–16 pt, centered, and should not exceed approximately 15 words.
  • Author names must be written without academic titles and include complete affiliations (institution, city, country), along with the corresponding author’s email address.
  • Line spacing: 1.15 for the main text and 1.0 for the abstract.
  • Manuscript length: approximately 5,000–8,000 words, with a maximum of 15–20 pages.
  • The abstract must be written in a single paragraph, not exceeding 250 words, followed by 3–5 keywords separated by semicolons (;).
  • Subheadings should follow a consistent format, either using a numbered system (e.g., 1., 1.1, etc.) or unnumbered headings in bold.
  • Scientific names (binomial nomenclature) must be written in italics, with the genus capitalized and the species in lowercase (e.g., Escherichia coli). Foreign terms not yet adopted into Indonesian should also be written in italics.
  • Tables and figures must be numbered consecutively and provided with clear titles. Table titles are placed above the table, while figure titles are placed below the figure. Sources (if any) must be properly cited.
  • Citation and reference formatting must follow the APA style (latest edition). Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley or similar tools to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • References: At least 80% of the cited sources must be from publications within the last 10 years.
  • Authors must use the journal template (Download the Kenanga Journal Template) when preparing their manuscripts.

MANUSCRIPT STRUCTURE

The manuscript must be organized according to the following structure:

  1. Title
    The title should be concise, specific, informative, and reflect the main content and important findings of the research. The title should be written in English. For manuscripts written in Indonesian, both the Indonesian and English titles should be provided.
  1. Authors and Affiliations
    Authors’ full names must be written without academic or professional titles. Each author must have a complete and valid affiliation, including institution, city, and country. The corresponding author must be clearly identified, and a valid email address must be provided.
  1. Abstract
    The abstract should be concise, clear, and informative. It should briefly present the background or research context, objective, methods, main results, and conclusion. The abstract should not contain references, tables, figures, or unexplained abbreviations. The abstract is written in one paragraph, with a maximum of 250 words.
    For manuscripts written in English, the abstract should be provided in English. For manuscripts written in Indonesian, both Indonesian and English abstracts should be provided.
    Keywords: 3–5 keywords separated by semicolons (;). Keywords should be specific, relevant, and useful for indexing and information retrieval.
  1. Introduction
    The Introduction should present:
    - the research background and scientific context;
    - relevant and up-to-date previous studies (state of the art);
    - the research problem or knowledge gap (research gap);
    - the novelty or scientific contribution of the research; and
    - the research objective or question.
    The Introduction should provide a clear justification for why the research was conducted.
  1. Materials and Methods
    This section should describe the research design, materials, methods, procedures, instruments, data collection, and data analysis in sufficient detail to allow the research to be understood and, where appropriate, reproduced.
    Where applicable, information on ethical approval, research permits, experimental conditions, sampling procedures, and statistical analyses should be provided.
  1. Results and Discussion
    This section should present and interpret the research findings critically.
    The Results and Discussion should include:
    - clear presentation of the main findings;
    - analysis and interpretation of the data;
    - appropriate use of tables, figures, graphs, or other supporting instruments;
    - comparison of findings with relevant previous studies;
    - explanation of similarities, differences, and possible causes; and
    - discussion of the scientific significance and implications of the findings.

    The discussion should go beyond merely describing the results and should provide critical analysis and synthesis.

  1. Conclusion
    The Conclusion should directly answer the research objectives or questions and summarize the principal findings and scientific contribution. Implications or recommendations may be included where appropriate. The Conclusion should not introduce new findings or extensive discussion.
  1. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
    The author(s) declare that AI and AI-assisted technologies were [not used / used solely to assist in language editing and grammar checking] during the preparation of this manuscript.
  1. Author Contributions
    Each author’s contribution should be stated clearly using an appropriate contribution statement, where applicable.

  2. Funding / Financial Support
    Authors should disclose the source of financial support for the research. If there was no specific funding, this should be stated explicitly.

  3. Conflict of Interest
    Authors must disclose any potential conflict of interest. If no conflict exists, authors should state this explicitly.
  4. Acknowledgments (optional)
    This section may acknowledge funding agencies, institutions, research facilities, individuals, or other parties who contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship.

  5. References
    All references cited in the manuscript must be listed in the References section and must follow the journal's prescribed referencing style.

    Reference Requirements:
    - References must follow the APA Style (latest edition).
    - All cited works must be listed in the References section.
    - Manuscripts must contain a minimum of 25 references.
    - At least 80% of the references must be from publications within the last 10 years.
    - It is recommended that at least 70% of the references be derived from scientific journal articles       published within the last 5–10 years.
    - Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

  • Manuscripts must be submitted through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
  • Authors are required to upload the manuscript file in Microsoft Word format (.doc/.docx).
  • Authors must complete all required metadata, including the title, abstract, and author information.

REVISION POLICY

  • Authors are required to revise the manuscript in accordance with the reviewers’ comments.
  • The revision deadline will be determined by the editor.
  • The manuscript may undergo several rounds of revision before a final decision is made.
