Central Aceh Regency possesses a rich vernacular architectural heritage represented by Umah Pitu Ruang, a traditional house that reflects the cultural identity of the Gayo community. However, its application in contemporary tourism architecture remains limited. This study examines the architectural transformation of Umah Pitu Ruang in the design of the Bamboo Umah Pitu Ruang cottage in Aceh Tengahand explores the use of local bamboo as the primary building material. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed through literature review, conceptual design analysis, field observation, physical measurement of bamboo, and semi-structured interviews. The results show that local bamboo is suitable as a structural and architectural material, with Dendrocalamus asper used for the main structure, Gigantochloa pruriens for architectural and semi-structural elements, and Gigantochloa atter for interior and furniture. The architectural transformation involved modifying the building's size, floor plan, spatial organization, and primary materials, while preserving the vernacular identity of Umah Pitu Ruang. The traditional horizontal gender-based spatial organization was transformed into a vertical zoning system, resulting in a compact two-story cottage suited to contemporary tourism needs. The study demonstrates that integrating local bamboo into vernacular architectural transformation provides an effective approach to developing contextual, sustainable tourism architecture.
