Zakat dan Pemberdayaan Ekonomi Mustahik: Studi Kasus Baitul Mal Aceh

This article discusses the role of zakat as an instrument for empowering mustahik’s economy, with a case study on Baitul Mal Aceh. As one of the pillars of Islamic economics, zakat not only functions as an act of ibadah maaliyah but also carries a strategic socio-economic dimension in reducing poverty and improving community welfare. This study aims to analyze how zakat management by Baitul Mal Aceh is directed towards mustahik’s economic empowerment and to assess the effectiveness of the implemented programs. The research employs a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis, including observation of empowerment programs and a review of financial reports and activity documents. The findings reveal that Baitul Mal Aceh not only distributes zakat consumptively but also develops productive zakat programs through business capital assistance, skills training, and capacity building for mustahik. These programs have proven to increase the income of some mustahik, although challenges remain in terms of limited mentoring, business monitoring, and financial literacy. The study concludes that productive zakat has the potential to be an effective instrument for poverty alleviation and economic independence, provided that improvements in governance, continuous evaluation, and integration with regional development policies are carried out.
