Religious moderation is a key initiative by the Indonesian government to enhance understanding, attitudes, and practices of religious life in a diverse society. This program addresses the rise of extreme religious interpretations that contradict the essence of religious teachings, fostering intolerance and discord. Issues include conflicts over places of worship and religious practices, often exacerbated by ethnic differences. The Indonesian government has responded by establishing the Forum for Religious Harmony (FKUB) to promote substantive harmony, supported by regulations, capacity building, and conflict management. Islamic higher education institutions (PTKIN) are urged to play a pivotal role in promoting religious moderation, aligning with local wisdom and global tolerance standards. Research indicates that religious conflicts are often intertwined with broader social issues, highlighting the need for active tolerance and dialogue. PTKIN must advance these efforts to achieve genuine religious harmony across Indonesia. This qualitative study explores the role of PTKIN (State Islamic Higher Education Institutions) in promoting religious moderation in Indonesia, particularly in Aceh. Focusing on UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh, IAIN Cot Kala Langsa, and IAIN Teungku Dirundeng Meulaboh, the research investigates challenges and potential strategies for fostering religious harmony. Data were collected through literature review, document analysis, and interviews. Findings reveal that while PTKINs have integrated religious harmony into their curricula and initiated related programs, efforts remain fragmented and lacking in comprehensive, systematic approaches. The study highlights the need for more cohesive curriculum development, sustained programs, and enhanced research initiatives to address religious tensions and promote moderation effectively.
