Shiism pervaded the soil of Nigeria afterwards in the early 1980s through the MSSN campus activism in Northern Nigeria spearheaded by Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. The prominent protagonists who kept the Shiite flag aloft were the Lebanese traders in Kano State accompanied by the students in Northern Universities in Nigeria, who saw the success of the Iranian revolution as a harbinger of practicability of theocratic government in Nigeria. While most writers focused on Shiite development in North-Western Nigeria, the paper delved into the discourse on diffusion of Shiism across North-Central Nigeria. The research adopted a historical method to analyse the sporadic spread of Twelver Shiism to Nigeria’s North-Central under the umbrella of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. Despite the fact that the Shiites in North-Central Nigeria upheld the Twelver doctrines, the Shiites in Okene area of Kogi State do not pay homage to El-Zakzaky. The paper concluded that the former’s indifference to the latter’s superintendence was based on political reasons.
2025-05-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Waliyullahi Adeola Adeyemi https://journal.ar-raniry.ac.id/IJIHC/article/view/7689 The Perspective of the Sadu Community on the Mandi Safar Tradition in Air Hitam Laut Village, East Tanjung Jabung 2025-05-29T09:21:30+08:00 Helen Larasati rudijambi062018@gmail.com Lisa Rukmana lisarukmana@unja.ac.id
Abstract

The Mandi Safar tradition is one of the cultural heritages still preserved by the community of Air Hitam Laut Village, Sadu Subdistrict, East Tanjung Jabung Regency. The results of this study indicate that since the beginning of his arrival to the city of Medan ethnic Indian Muslims received a warm welcome and the adaptation process went well, this is because the ethnic Indian Muslims who came to the city of Medan tried to blend in quickly and did not accentuate their identity (as Indians) thickly even they were able to assimilate into anything and anyone many who assimilated into Malay, Bugis, Javanese and others it was done through the marriage process. The patterns of life of the local community are successfully followed so that there is a very close bond of brotherhood and ethnic Indian Muslims do not look like foreign immigrants in Medan city. In addition, through the Tepung Tawar tradition which is one of the traditions of Indian origin which can then be accepted by the Malay community in Medan city and even become one of the traditions that have been attached to the Malay community, the steps taken by ethnic Indian Muslims at that time by eliminating Hindu elements and embedding Islamic values in it, so that the cultural adaptation process carried out by ethnic Indian Muslims in Medan city is considered successful.
2025-05-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 NURAINI PANGARIBUAN https://journal.ar-raniry.ac.id/IJIHC/article/view/5341 Trade And Commerce Reform During The Umayyad Dynasty 2025-04-13T11:51:20+08:00 Sa'ida Tushofiyah shofiyahaha123@gmail.com Eka Wahyu Hestya Budianto wahyu.ala@uin-malang.ac.id
Trade and commerce reform during the Umayyad dynasty marked a significant period in economic history, characterized by policy changes that influenced commercial activities within the caliphate. The reforms implemented by caliphs, particularly Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, played a crucial role in stabilizing the government and enhancing trade dynamics. Previous research has explored the relationship between trade reforms and economic growth, shedding light on the interconnectedness between trade practices, economic development, and urban growth. The study of trade and commerce reform during the Umayyad dynasty presents a compelling research area with key phenomena to explore, including administrative and financial policies, trade costs, and the role of imported inputs in driving domestic growth. Understanding the mechanisms through which policy changes affected economic activities is essential for formulating effective research objectives. By setting clear research objectives to analyze the impact of policy changes on trade dynamics and economic growth, scholars can gain insights into the multifaceted nature of trade reforms during the Umayyad era. It fostered the rise of a new intellectual class driven by aspirations for reform and emancipation, who articulated their ideas through socio-religious and educational organizations. This study investigates the intellectual polarization among Gayo Muslims that emerged in the wake of this policy. It addresses two core inquiries: the causes behind the polarization and its subsequent dynamics. Adopting a historical method with a socio-cultural approach, the research finds that the Dutch educational system significantly influenced this intellectual divide. Initially resisted by traditionalist circles who perceived it as a deviation from Islamic orthodoxy the Western model of education gradually produced a cohort of critical thinkers. These individuals began to challenge established religious rituals, labeling them as inconsistent with the essence of Islam. As a result, Gayo Muslim intellectuals became ideologically fragmented into two primary camps: the traditionalist group (Kaom Tue) and the modernist or reformist group (Kaom Mude).
2025-05-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Zikri Iwan Sempena
