Abstract

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) hasĀ  become an important topic. Its existence is discussed and reported massively in media around the world. One lesson we learned from COVID-19 is that knowledge of disasters should be one of the compulsory topics addressed in school lessons as part of learning activities to increase student awareness and reduce the risk of any catastrophe. This research aims to determine the integration of disaster knowledge, especially COVID-19 knowledge, and how teachers and students view the integration process during the spread of COVID-19 in the high schools in Banda Aceh City. It used mixed methods to collect information from 472 participants from 22 schools in the Banda Aceh area during the pandemic. Based on an analysis of the lesson plans used by teachers, the pandemic was taught through different topics, namely acid-base, buffer solutions, and colloid. The study also shows that most teachers and students give positive feedback, 86% and 81%, respectively, on integrating COVID-19 into chemistry learning.
